Causes Of Land Pollution
1.One of the causes of land pollution is increase in urbanization as construction uses up forestland. More constructions leads to the increase in demand for raw materials for example timber which will lead to the exploitation and destruction of forests. As a result, there is an increase in demand for water. To solve this problem, reservoirs are built leading to loss of land.
2.Another is the increase in agricultural land. When the human population grows, there will be a greater demand for food. This will cause more land to be allocated to agriculture. As there are limited area on earth, forests are cut down to provide spaces.
3.Another is the domestic watse as every day, tons of watse are dumped. If these watse are not disposed properly, the damage it causes to the environment and the humankind can be devastating. Waste form homes, offices and industries can be either recycled or burnt in incinerators, but a large amount of watse can neither be burnt nor recycled and often are left in areas known as dumping grounds. As people dumped more things nowadays, there is an increase in the amount of solid watse. As a result, more dumping grounds have been found to consolidate all of this waste which leads to land pollution.
4.Another is the agricultural activities. When farmers use pesticides and herbicides to increase crop yields, it also pollutes the land as they are washed into the soil.
5.Lastly is the industrial activities. It is also a factor as for e.g, in open cast mining, huge holes are dug in the ground and these form dangerously deep mining pools. Heaps of mining watse are left behind and these waste are left behind, which often contain several poisnous substances that will contaminate the soil.
*Pollution sources includes plastic factories, chemical plants, oil refineries, nuclear waste disposal activity, large animal farms, coal-fired power plants, metals production factories and other heavy industry.
